Gesimat has developed a new type of smart glazing. This
innovation is based on the phenomenon of electrochromism.
Our smart electrochromic glazing are unique because of its combination
of the automatic regulation of the light and heat transmittance with
the properties of laminated safety glass and sound control glazings.
These smart windows are made of two glass panes which are laminated
together with an ion conducting polymer foil. The glass panes are coated
with an electrochromic film. These films can change their color in response
to an applied voltage. By this process the light and heat transmission
and reflection properties of the laminated glass can be altered. The
light and heat transmittance can be regulated automatically. The ion
conducting interlayer between the glass panes is responsible for the transport
of ionic charges.
Our electrochromic laminated glazing is different from other development
concepts for electrochromic glazings because of the use of
- two complementary electrochromic layers
- an electrochemical deposition technique for the electrochromic
layers
- and the use of a mechanically strong, ion conducting polymer sheet.

Presently we are preparing the construction of a pilot production plant.
